one lock of my rambouillet fleece washed, combed and spun- I couldn't wait Posted by Hello

so excited I couldn't sleep

I ordered some viking combs last night. I am so excited I couldn't sleep. I kept dreaming of combing wool and pulling it through a diz. It didn't help that I have an awful cold and sore throat. I washed, combed and spun a lock of my fleece. This is going to be fun!

Sheepy goodness

Today I went to Sandy's Sheep Shop with Vicki. We had a great time. The sheep were so cute. Sandy is very nice and has great prices on her spun wool. They are gorgeous colors too. She had fingering and worsted weight but I went for a fleece! She had a beautiful rambouillet fleece and louet cards that went home with me. I can't wait for tonight! my last spinning class and I'm going to learn carding with my new cards!

A fun time was had by all

Yesterday was a blast! How could it not be , seven spinning and knitting women. I gave a short spinning lesson and they were off. Vicki had a long stapled top that was impossible to draft but she got a really consistent single out of it with a cd spindle! Talk about a natural!! Margel came late so she got a not so complete lesson but she also was a natural and got a really nice single. My sweet mother in law worked hard to make a Persian feast for us. Afterward we had Persian tea and cream puffs! Carol left me with the pot pouri heart in the summerIK as a hostess gift. What a small world. One of the ladies on FT designed it! Vicki they are knitting your patterns!

I love combing

I'm totally hooked! I love combing. I used indigo hound and maxine or maxeme combs. The latter are not made anymore and, I understand, are very special. I loved combing! Next week I'm going to try carding and flicking.

laceweight spindle spun alpaca Posted by Hello

Tonight!

Tonight I learn how to comb a fleece in my spinning class. I only have one spinning class left I'm hoping to learn to card next time.
Saturday I have friends from the spinning guild and meetup group coming for a spinning demo. I don't know much but they are interested and we like to get together for any old reason;-)
I leave you with a picture of that alpaca plied(this sample was spindle spun).

right, wild things-left, chocolate alpaca Posted by Hello

saving ducklings

I had to save 9 ducklings from the pool today. They followed their mother in and couldn't get out but didn't really want to be saved. I had to put on my suit and traipse out there in 55 dgree weather. Thankfully my husband keeps the pool very warm. Those little suckers swim underwater really well. All were saved.
I'm so close and yet so far... from finishing two projects. I need to get off my duff! I've been spinning some chocolate alpaca which is very yummy. It was a gift from a fellow fibertradtioner-my favorite yahoo group. I also had to spin a sample of Lisa Souza's merino wild things. It was so soft and cushy!! The merino is what I am lusting after now! I need a fix!

A good bias with my corriedale handspun Posted by Hello

Not so good bias

I'm having a hard time with guage but I think it will be okay. The original was in mission falls cotton, so with the wool I think it will block out more and have more stretch in the finished product. There's always frogging;-)

baby geese, we call the very protective Dad Charlie Posted by Hello

Done!

I finished spinning the corriedale. I couldn't wait to try it out so I cast on for a shrug that was in the Sping issue of IK, On the Bais, I think it's called. I didn't swatch and it is humongous. I'm going to take out a lace repeat instead of going down needle sizes. The drape was perfect, my homespun is just chunkier than the called for yarn. I'm on the border of Karis now. I just need to get motivated to finish it! I'll leave you with a picture of the baby geese born behind our pool:-)

Here are some pictures of the house. I am so lucky. It is a dream house! My husband told me to use the sun room for the spinning room but I just couldn't. Maybe someday I'll get a Golding and then...

One of my recent finishes- a tad short;-) Posted by Hello

Almost finished

I'm almost finished with Karis and the Paisley shawl and spinning the yarn for the Isis wrap in the summer 2005 Ik. I have knitting a Maltese flag on my list as next although I may have to get yarn for that one. Still no camera. I found one of the cables but have got to find the other one. We'll get to it!

my round scarf in linen drape - finally weather to wear this! Posted by Hello

I'm back

I'm back and have a computer! Woo Hoo! Unfortunately I can't find the cable for the camera down loading;-( but I know hubby must have taken it off. That is either a good thing or a really bad thing!! We put our old house up on the market and it has a pending sale the FIRST DAY!! One of the neighbors must have always been interested and as soon as it went on the market they jumped on it. Very lucky for us. I'll leave with an old picture because i think pictures are the most interesting things on blogs.
